Addressing a press conference in the capital, Delhi, on Tuesday, Mr Sibal said he had asked the companies in September to remove images and statements deemed offensive to religious groups, but that they had ignored his requests.
He said: "My aim is that insulting material never gets uploaded. We will evolve guidelines and mechanisms to deal with the issue. They will have to give us the data, where these images are being uploaded and who is doing it."
Google seems to be supporting free speech and only removes illegal material. However, Facebook is a bit more wishy-washy on the topic and their policy is to:
remove any content that violates our terms, which are designed to keep material that is hateful, threatening, incites violence or contains nudity off the service
I can only recall them ever shutting down a few pages that were deemed controversial in my memory and those pages were re-instated after a bit. I believe Facebook's set up is much like YouTube where if something is flagged it is taken down until either reviewed or challenged and reviewed. I am not certain of this. If anyone has any more information please pass it along.
Fore more information I suggest reading this.
Either way, I was looking for something to target in my studies so Indian religions it is. I think I will go in chronological order of their creation. If memory serves correct that means Hinduism is up.
